Speaking of this, Josh Steichmann hits it on the head in the new Current:
They are profoundly hard to defend, hard to explain. It's always a conversation where the other party is deeply skeptical. It's not that the Great Lakes Myth Society is unpopular; their shows have a pretty good turnout. Even that blogger who wears the natty sport jackets, usually a hipster barometer, shows up. But maybe his taste is as far off as mine is on this one. ...If someone else doesn't like them, they've failed to connect on some level that you have, and you've failed to connect with them.
And for the last time, I'm not an f-ing hipster. I just have good taste.
